Linda Rydstrom, President and CEO of Westjet Air Center, Inc. at Rapid City Regional Airport (KRAP), is celebrating an incredible milestone this year as she marks 50 years with the company.

As a role model to many, Linda has grown alongside the FBO over five decades, holding a variety of roles, including flight instructor, director of operations, and check airman for Westjet’s Part 135 certificate, corporate accountant, and president.

Throughout her career, Linda pursued education and professional development, which proved invaluable when she medically retired from flying in 2006 after accumulating over 16,000 flight hours. That foundation helped her transition into leadership roles, and today, she continues to lead Westjet and serve on the Phillips 66® Aviation Advisory Council, as well as other aviation boards.

Linda’s impact reaches beyond the FBO. Together with her husband, Don, she launched a scholarship in partnership with a local flight school to support the next generation of aviators. Her dedication to mentorship, education, and aviation leadership remains a central part of her legacy.

From all of us at Phillips 66® Aviation, we congratulate Linda on this remarkable achievement.

Honored at AirVenture for flying nearly 1,100 youth and inspiring smiles at every altitude

OSHKOSH, Wis. – (July 23, 2025) –  Phillips 66® Aviation, a leading diversified and integrated downstream energy provider and a major contract jet and avgas fuel supplier to private, commercial, and military aviation, is proud to present the 2025 Phillips 66® Aviation Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles Leadership Award to Michael Grzincich. As a Young Eagles Coordinator of EAA Chapter 237 in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Michael has introduced nearly 1,100 youth to the joy of flight, making him one of Minnesota’s most dedicated aviation mentors.

“I’m honored that someone took the time to nominate me and humbled that people have noticed my enthusiasm for Young Eagles,” said Grzincich. “I can’t imagine a life without Young Eagles – it’s what I look forward to most each month. Seeing a 12-year-old at the controls, realizing, ‘I’m flying an airplane!’ – that’s why we do this.”

“Michael Grzincich’s dedication to creating meaningful, hands-on aviation experiences is inspiring a love of flight in the next generation,” said Ronald Sanchez, General Manager, Aviation, Phillips 66. “We’re proud to honor Michael with this award for his extraordinary leadership, passion, selfless service, and for opening doors and creating unforgettable opportunities for youth.”

From First Flight to Lifelong Purpose

Grzincich’s aviation journey began as a child when his grandfather, a private pilot, took him on his first flight. Then, at 24, he obtained his private pilot’s license. After a 15-year break, during which he raised a family and built a business with his wife, Stacy, Grzincich returned to aviation and the cockpit at his son’s request.

In a full-circle moment, Michael Grzincich tracked down and repurchased the same airplane once owned by his grandfather, complete with the original logbooks and even the hand-built ladder bearing its tail number. “That plane is part of our family story,” said Grzincich. “Now it’s part of hundreds of kids’ futures. My grandfather inspired me to fly, and now I get to pass this passion of flight on to others.”

Michael has since flown multiple generations of his family, including his sons, uncles, grandchildren, and grandmother, in the same aircraft, paying tribute to the man who first inspired his dreams of flying.

Giving Back Through Aviation

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Grzincich flew smoke circles over nursing homes, including the one where his stepfather lived, as a way to lift spirits.

“I’d ask myself, ‘How can I use my airplane to make other people smile?’ That’s what it’s all about,” Michael recalled.

Since 2016, Grzincich has helped the EAA Chapter 237 consistently fly 40-50 Young Eagles per month. He also organizes special flights for school groups unable to attend regular events. As a chapter board member, he supports aircraft restoration efforts, including work on the Berlin Express B-25 Bomber, and applies his IT expertise to improve chapter operations.

Inspiring Future Aviators

When he’s not flying, Grzincich teaches information technology at a local community college, where he often introduces students from underrepresented communities to aviation. Many bring siblings or children to Young Eagles events, discovering opportunities they hadn’t imagined before.

Looking ahead, Grzincich hopes to expand his impact by mentoring even more aspiring pilots and building partnerships that introduce aviation to students who may not otherwise have access. With plans to grow his chapter’s outreach and continue restoring historic aircraft, Michael remains committed to preserving aviation’s past while shaping its future—one smile at a time.

For 30 years, Phillips 66® Aviation has sponsored EAA Young Eagles and supported outstanding volunteers. Phillips 66 continues to provide a $1-per-gallon avgas rebate to all Young Eagles volunteer pilots, helping the Young Eagles program with even more flights.

HOUSTON – (June 5, 2025) – Phillips 66® Aviation was awarded a multi-year Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Energy Jet-A fuel supply contract for Westjet Air Center, Inc. at Rapid City Regional Airport (KRAP) in South Dakota. The DLA contract expands Westjet Air Center’s fueling capabilities to support a wide variety of military and government aircraft, including bomber and fighter jets, transport and utility aircraft, helicopters, government-operated fire bombers, Bureau of Land Management aircraft, U.S. Forest Service aircraft, Department of Defense (DOD) aircraft, and other state and federal aviation assets.

“With my father, an Army veteran, serving as our chairman, this contract holds profound significance for us,” said Miranda Maleki, Vice President, Westjet Air Center. “His military service instilled in our family a deep respect for those who serve, making this opportunity to support military and government aircraft especially meaningful. We take great pride in our 68-year partnership with Phillips 66 Aviation, ensuring we can provide high-quality fuel services for all our customers.”

In addition to its strong military roots, Westjet Air Center plays a vital role in the region’s wildfire response efforts. The FBO provides essential fuel to fire fighting aircraft that are crucial in combating wildfires across the Black Hills. With the increasing frequency and severity of wildfires, Westjet Air Center’s ability to fuel fire fighting aircraft quickly and efficiently is critical to firefighting operations, ensuring aircraft can make life-saving drops in affected regions.

Westjet Air Center’s dedication to the community goes beyond its military connections and wildfire relief. For decades, the FBO has been a cornerstone of the Rapid City community, offering unwavering support through local initiatives. Westjet Air Center participates in annual events for children and families, supports local schools and organizations, and contributes to various community efforts that strengthen its bond with the people of Rapid City.

“This announcement marks a special milestone in our collaboration with Westjet Air Center,” said Ronald Sanchez, General Manager, Aviation, Phillips 66. “It reinforces our commitment to supporting Westjet Air Center in its mission to make a positive impact in the Rapid City community. We are proud to provide them with the fuel services they need to meet the needs of their customers and continue their legacy of service to the military, local residents and visitors to the region.”

Easy Fueling for Former AirCard® Users

As one of the few FBOs in Southern South Dakota with a DLA Energy contract, Westjet Air Center is positioned to become a key fueling hub in the region. Customers who have previously used the AirCard® can easily transition to utilizing the full DLA Energy contract for fuel purchases, streamlining their access to comprehensive fueling services. To support this growth, Westjet Air Center is expanding its fuel storage capacity by 70,000 gallons and upgrading its hangar space. These improvements will enhance Westjet Air Center’s ability to serve military and government aviation, local base tenants, and visitors to the Black Hills, including those traveling to iconic landmarks like Mount Rushmore.
